Bibles
(four people needed)
(on stage - a table filled with various Bibles)
Announcer: Look at all of these Bibles! This one is so small! Very convienent to carry. This one is a large print - Good for old eyes! This one is a study Bible...wow - that is really amazing! Here's another study Bible. It answers all sorts of skepicism and false teachings - like evolution and humanism! Look at this Bible! It's broken up into small passages that correspond to each other for daily reading - hmmm...read the Bible in a year. I never thought I'd have time to read the WHOLE Bible, but maybe this way I could do it!
Look at this. A Bible in Swahili! Wow. Imagine is this were the only Bible is a whole town or village. I hear that is pretty common in some places in the world. How valuable this one Bible would be if it were the only Bible for the 30,000 people around Bennington to share! Did you know: The 6 billion world population speaks a total of 6,809 languages.
(One and Two enter, and take places at opposite ends of platform.
As One enters, she holds a broken cup out to accept coins from various audience memebrs)
One: shivers on the floor as if freezing to death - dressed in rags, cold.
Two: Comes in with a coat on and four more in hand. Throws them on the floor. "What a pain to carry these around". Steps on them carelessly as walks around. "I can't believe my mom makes me wear a coat to church. Gag! What if my friends see me in this stupid looking thing?" Walks to trash can, starts throwing coats away. "Dumb." "Too hot and bulky." "Too old." "Not fashionable enough." "I need a new coat - actually. They have a few at that church. Maybe I'll just use the ones there. Then I won't have to carry one around!" (throws away last coat and storms off).
Announcer: "In our skit today, we used coats to represent the Bible. Of those 6,809 languages 3,000 languages or 250 million people do not have a translation of the Bible! Yes, 3,000 languages that don't have a work started."
"Americans spend more money on bubble gum and dog food than on missions. Meanwhile, there are people all over the world without a Bible they can read and understand...or without a preacher to reach them. The church has the responsibility to publish the Word to the world. I am glad we have two Bible publishing ministries, BBC supports: Bearing Precious Seed Ministry, and Seedline Ministries. Please read their prayer letters they send us, and pray for them every day!"
Three: (walks in with a coat, gives it to the huddled person, helps up, and walks offstage with them)
